Artist Bio

Odessia Ratsky Serawop was born in Fort Duchesne, Utah in 1982. Individuals who inspired her to create art were her art instructor, Mrs. Bausman, and her mother. Since then, she has had a passion for art.

Her photographic inspirations include Matika Wilbur, Will Wilson and B.A.Haldane. She will receive her BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts in spring 2017.

Her craftsmanship has developed and changed over the years as she has gained knowledge through her life experiences. Her photography originates from her desire to observe the world through a lens, with intense passion. Through these photographs, she expresses her feelings for people she knows and their conversations.

She aspires to bring her experiences to the viewer using her photography installation. Serawop’s goal is to demonstrate her indigenous experiences, how she sees people, the history, and the celebration of Native American women.

Serawop believes a great photograph is not merely documenting the scene at hand, but a picture is making history while doing what you love.
